Introducing Holly Walton-Buchanan, Ph.D.
NWHP New State Newsletter Editor
I am delighted to announce that
Holly Walton-Buchanan, Vice-Chair for
the North Region, has agreed to take
over the editorship of the NWHP State
Newsletter effective January 1, 2009.
She comes with an impressive
background as a published
author and has had
experience with newsletter
production in the past. Her
most recent book is
described in an article in this
issue: Mackay Memories,
1908-2008: The First 10 0
Years of the Mackay School of
Mines.
Holly worked for
several years as a Director
at the Nevada Department of Education in Carson City. Prior to
that, she was a Spanish teacher. She
earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership
at the University of Nevada, Reno in
2003.
So, I will be saying a fond “adieu” to
all of you readers and volunteers who
were so good at turning in your
assignments, sharing photos and items of
interest. Many of you contributed over
the years by helping with the label
update and printing, preparing and
mailing the newsletter.
Every one of you was
appreciated by me. Our
Newsletter Committee is a
great asset to the editor
and will continue to work
with Holly next year. I plan
to concentrate on the Web
site biographies as I will
remain as editor of that
site.
It’s been a rewarding 10
years! Thanks again for
your dedication and support. You are a
wonderful group to work with.
Have a Happy Holiday season.

Editor Emeritus

Start Your New 2009 Year
Off With a NWHP Program
Be sure to put Saturday, January
24, 2009, on your calendar as the
start of our new program series
highlighting womens issues in Nevada.
Mella Harmon of the Nevada
Historical Society will present a
luncheon program on Passion in
the Desert: The Reno Divorce
Racket. This historical perspective
will address the Reno divorce market
after Nevada liberalized its divorce
laws. It will be both educational
and entertaining. Look for
additional information on the program
in early December.
